Not a substitute for the casebook

This is a good source to check your understanding of the cases in the book. It is not a substitute for reading and briefing the cases. Casenotes has good definitions at the end of each case to explain terms and concepts.
Beware-any professor who has taught from this textbook more than 2 years will know when you have only read casenotes. I have seen professors who have the casenotes pages in their notebooks and can read out loud with you if you attempt to use this.
Also, the issue stressed in casenotes may not be the issue your professor is wanting to emphasize. Casebooks may frame the issue as a question of trespass, but your professor may be stressing a public policy issue.
Also, many professors deviate from this textbook for state specific laws.
This is a study aid, but not a crutch, overuse will cause a permanent limp.

Case Brief Books are what you need.

I do not like to waste money! I think that casebooks are an incredible waste of money. If you doubt it, use the ISBN and check the resale value of a new casebook that you are about to buy... I'll wait...
So, instead, buy a Gilbert's Law Summary for the subject and a Case Brief Book from your favorite company. Try to buy one keyed to the casebook you are supposed to have purchased if possible, but if a case is important enough, it will be in all of the case brief books.
Also, if it is that important, it will be on Wikipedia too! Just Google the case, you'll find it. If it is too remote of a case, see if you have the option of briefing another case (I have that option at my program).
A Gilbert's and a Case Brief book is all you should need to get the job done and are far less expensive than a casebook!

This casenote book is great for use IN ADDITION to reading the cases. Once I read the case, I read the corresponding casenote write-up. The briefs tend to be a little too chopped up for some cases, but the main point gets across. Good more as a study aid for review throughout the semester and before a final. Do not rely on this to replace your reading. It makes the cases a lot clearer and helps you see the more important points of each case after you read them in full.
This casenote brief book is not as comprehensive as some of the others I have bought from the same line from Aspen, but it gets the job done.
