On the fence? Let me help: you need this book.

This book is indispensable less for any contribution of the author than for (1) actual past bar exam questions beginning in July 2011 and going back about ten years, and (2) the student answers that accompany the questions, along with the score each answer received.
The scores will confound you, but they'll make you confident. The answers are so terrible -- often just plain misstating the law (and the author helpfully makes it clear that getting the rule right is not necessary for a good score) -- that you'll be reassured that you'll do well even if you're not at the top of your game during the exam.
That being said, don't get prematurely complacent. Buy the book and read all of the answers. By then, you'll have holistically developed a sense of what constitutes fair, good, and great answers, even if you aren't able to put the standard into words. The author's advice is also helpful, and I don't think I'm violating fair use by mentioning that it boils down to the old IRAC method. If you make a decent effort at a standard law school exam IRAC-formatted answer, you'll stumble your way into a passing score, if not a great one.
In absolute terms, the book is expensive, but keep in mind that individual exams from the Board of Law Examiners are $10 to $15 each, and this book includes (what I assume are) all of the questions dating back to 2001. So you can justify it that way, if you'd like. And if it's needed, here's something else: spare no reasonable expense when it comes to passing the bar. Appealing is expensive, to say nothing of the eyebrows that will be raised when people are informed that you are the one of five applicants who requires two tries instead of one.
If it matters to you, I passed the February 2012 bar exam with this book and without taking the BarBri course, but mine is a unique case: I am a member of the Florida Bar, and I did take the BarBri course for the Florida bar exam. It pains me to say it, but a comprehensive review course such as BarBri or PMBR is probably necessary for first-time examinees. If you're taking your second bar exam, do as I did and just purchase this book and a recent copy of the BarBri Conviser on Amazon or elsewhere.

Reading this book was the best thing I did to prepare for the MI Bar Exam

This book is literally the reason I passed the Michigan Bar Exam. I really struggled with the MBE so I used this book to really nail the MI Essay portion. It is worth the price because you get to see actual bar exam answers. As I was writing the bar exam I could almost grade the essays myself. After day one of the exam, I knew I had bombed one essay...I told a friend "I probably got a three on that essay"....That was in July and now, in November, I just got my passing score on the MI Bar Exam and, sure enough, I got a three on the essay I struggled with. This book was invaluable because going into the exam, I knew what kind of essay would get a "7" or a "10" but I also knew what a "3" essay looked like. Knowing that I had just written a "3" essay was distressing but I knew exactly what kind of essay I had to write for the next question and the next question.

A must have for the Michigan bar

This book was more valuable to me than the traditional bar review course. The bar review course is necessary for the outlines, but this book helped me understand how the questions are laid out and what sort of answers the law examiners are looking for. I went through every single question in this book and made my own outline of the most frequently-tested subjects. It really helped me focus my studying. I took the bar this week and the essays almost felt easy.
