Great for developing your MBE strategy!

This book is a great supplement to a traditional bar review course. While Barbri will give you the basic black letter law, this book goes one step further in providing actual strategies for how to approach certain subjects as well as the MBE in general. This is where the true value in the book is, especially if you are a person that feels like the know the black letter let, but just have a hard time applying it. It provides a general outline for each subject, a strategy section, questions, and answers with explanations. It also comes with a full length practice test (AM and PM sections).

I was just NOT getting it with Multiple choice Law School questions and this book was recommended by Professor to prep for Final. he was the only vendor able to get it to me in 3 days....Giving me 9 days to use it to pass final with a B-. Good for testing comprehension

I had access to a ridiculous array of resources in studying for Crim Pro--3 commercial outlines, 3 books of practice questions, a book of case briefs, and Emanuel's "Law in a Flash" cards, and tried all of them at least once. This review compares them all.

Glannon Guide to Crim Pro: Learning through MC Q&A. Similar to E&E, but a lot shorter. 1-2pp chapters on the major topics, each followed by targeted practice questions. Where E&E's questions tend to be simple and numerous, allowing you to see different permutations of the law, Glannon's only has one question per concept, which tends to be trickier than E&E (more like a real exam Q). Explanations are thorough. Very good for mastering the general rules and major exceptions, not so good if you already get the basics but you are looking for VOLUME of Qs or multi-issue fact patterns like what most of your exam is likely consist of--for those things, get Siegel's.

OTHER TEST PREP SUPPS

Siegel's Crim Pro (Essay & MC Q&A). If you generally get the concepts & don't need a commercial outline, this is a fantastic option. The questions were very realistic, and the answers were thorough and accurate. I didn't find any obvious mistakes, unlike in PMBR. Book has NO explanation of the law outside of the Q&A itself (no chapters, outline, etc)--JUST practice questions. I really liked this book for end-of-semester practice once I already had a basic idea of the concepts, and it was great for helping me figure out what I needed to study the most.

Emanuel's "Law in a flash" cards: NOT BAD! Especially if you have a closed-book exam. Trick is to actually use them.;-)

OUTLINES
Emmanuel's was BY FAR the best of the commercial outlines--it was the one I kept coming back to. The others I had were the Kaplan/PMBR 2nd Ed. (2009), E&E 2006 Ed., and the 2005 "Casenote Legal Briefs" published by Aspen. The Emanuel's outline was very well-organized, which allowed me to engage each topic in the depth that I needed for my course. I was quickly able to find the general rule for each topic, see what all the exceptions were and understand the key aspects of each relevant case (including the rule, holding and enough facts to show how the rule is applied--which many outlines leave out), all in 1-2 paragraphs per case. This does not replace actually reading the cases (these things are called "supplements" for a reason), but it's very useful for outlining and understanding how the cases fit together. It really covers a lot of ground, too--there was scarcely even a squib in my CB that wasn't in here. Other critical feature: has both a case index and a detailed topic index. There are even practice questions and answers for each section and practice essay questions at the end--wish I'd seen that when I was studying!
I should note that I have the 2007 version (27th Ed.), but unless they revamped the whole thing with the 28th Ed., they should be pretty similar. Whatever supplement you buy, try to GET A NEW(ish) EDITION--this is a rapidly evolving area of law with several cases in the last 2-5 years (and many in the last 2) that turned established doctrines on their heads.
COMPARED TO (in no real order):

E&E: I don't really like the narrative style/paragraph structure of E&E--it's hard to just pick up in the middle and grasp a narrow issue; hard to find stuff; and provides too little in the way of the facts of each case. Practice questions are fairly targeted, ie, you know what concept they are testing and you get several fact patterns to try your hand at. This may be good for initially grasping something you're struggling with, but very few exam questions are written so narrowly--most mix in several issues. And Crim Pro is not an area of the law like Evidence or Property where there are really complex concepts that you would really need these targeted-type questions to understand. The sticking point with Crim Pro is more that there are A LOT of fairly straightforward concepts you have to learn and understand as part of a system.

Kaplan/PMBR: too quick & dirty--misses a lot of the nuances in different doctrines. Doesn't include ANY facts of cases, just the rule/holding. It has NO CASE INDEX--this is a dealbreaker for me! Drives me CRAZY. I tried some of the practice MC questions, which were good in that they mixed several issues together, like a real exam, as opposed to just testing comprehension of one issue at a time--BUT, and this is a big problem--they tend to overgeneralize/avoid nuances that would totally change the outcome. I think some of their answers were actually wrong given the fact patterns due to this overgeneralization problem.
Casenotes Legal Briefs: This is exactly what it says it is. The briefs are longer than most squibs, so only save you time for the non-squibs...which are precisely the ones you probably should make sure you actually read.

This book is FULL of mistakes, don't waste your money!

There are SO many mistakes in this book I wonder if anybody proofread this book before it got published. I've already found 5 mistakes and only just started flipping through the book. An example of a mistake is on page 110 "Police Officer Marco arrested Anthony...Anthony took Marco into custody..." This book is FULL of stupid and obvious mistakes like that. Just jumping around through the questions I am finding many mistakes in the book. The worst part is some of the book's mistakes make you even more confused. Some of the answer explainations do not match with what the supposed correct answer is. For example the book will say the correct answer is choice A. Yet the explaination will explain why choice C is the correct answer. You're better off NOT reading this book, you'll be more confused about criminal procedure after reading this book. I have no idea where the author's mind was when he was writing this book. I don't think any law student has ever made this many stupid and obvious mistakes in a written work as this author has in this book!

This is one of the worst supplemental resources because it is misleading. The questions are stupid and worthless. I absolutely LOVE the Glannon Guide for Conlaw; so I assumed I would enjoy the same series for Crimpro. Boy, was I wrong!!!!

About the Author
Patent attorney, author, and educator Janice M. Mueller co-founded the Chisum Patent Academy with Donald S. Chisum in 2009. From 2004-2011, Janice was a tenured full Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she taught and wrote in the field of intellectual property law with an emphasis in U.S. and comparative patent law. Janice has also taught at the John Marshall Law School (Chicago), Suffolk University (Boston), the University of Kentucky, the University of Washington, Seattle University, Santa Clara University, and William Mitchell College of Law. The first woman law clerk to Judge Giles S. Rich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Janice litigated patent and intellectual property cases for the U.S. Department of Justice before entering academia. She is the author of Patent Law, Fourth Edition (Aspen Student Treatise Series 2013) and the two-volume, annually-updated practitioner treatise, Mueller on Patent Law (Wolters Kluwer Law & Business). Volume I of MOPL (first published 2012) focuses on patentability and validity; Volume II of MOPL (first published 2014) covers enforcement. Great intro to patent law

Started studying for the patent bar exam by reading this book. The explanations are more insightful than the MPEP. For me, as an engineer looking to change fields and go into patent law, this was a great place to start. I probably could have skimmed over some of the many examples of case law and would have gotten through the book faster, but I found them interesting. Also, this book DOES cover inter partes review and post grant review. The book does a pretty good job of explaining patentability and priority. After reading, I found myself still struggling to understand the MPEP with regards to filing proceedures and examination procedures for the various types of applications. Add a little more substance in that area on the next edition, and this book will be worthy of five stars!

Great introductory book on patent law for scientific professionals

Although intended for law school students, this title can be very useful for scientific professionals who frequently encounter patent-related issues in today's industrial R&D world. Particularly I find its great value for researchers in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.

The best feature of the book is that the author successfully breaks down the often abstract and difficult statutes, laws and prosecution into easily understandable texts. She is so good at using specific cases and examples to explain important points that a chemist/biochemist like me can read the book without much difficulty or inconvenience. It has a list of discussed cases where you can find familiar names such as: Amgen, Baker Hughes, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Genentech, Dow, Eli Lilly, Gen-Probe, Merck, Perkin-Elmer, Pharmacia, etc.

As a textbook in law school, it covers some patent (law) history and its societal impacts which may not be interesting for some practical purposes. It is certainly not a patent examiner's handbook or MPEP, nor is it a preparation book for patent bar exam.

If a chemist wants to quickly grasp some background without reading this 400-page book, I recommend the excellent materials provided by American Chemical Society to its members through its website.

Very good prep to Patent Bar

Although the purpose of the book is not to prepare readers for the patent bar it does so anyways, especially Chapters 600 and 700 of the MPEP which are the most challenging and analytical and also the most heavily tested. It also goes into the basics of reissue and reixamination as well as international agreements governing patent prosecution.

If you are reading the book solely to prepare for the Patent Bar skip the three chapters at the end on infringement since this involves litigation and is not tested on the exam. I loved the multitude of examples and the history of how the laws were developed. Makes studying for the test a lot more enjoyable.

too much history not enough procedure

The problem with this book is its over treatment of historical issues surrounding how American Civil Procedure comes about and changes through time rather than being a good case book with critical analysis on what the court has done, how their decisions effect people and of course Civil Procedure. Perhaps the most telling is the poor treatment of Pennoyer v Neff, where the case is not even included but only excerpts and then some summary by a historian. This was unhelpful. Though it may be good to shorten or remove some parts of the case, it has been done so excessively here that it is hard to take what is so important about Pennoyer for Civ Pro students.

Good Reference Material worth keeping after the class is over

While it would be impossible to LOVE a tax book, it is quite close to being able to love. This is a good reference material for open book tests or self-study. I used it to help make sense of lectures in class and found it organized and good for a quick reference.
Even after I finished the class​, i still keep it in case a question pops up for work or trivia.

Tax is just hard

The outline was very helpful--tax is just a difficult subject to master. I used the book as a supplement to my text book. You certainly cannot use only the outline and expect to learn federal income tax well. It is an invaluable resource when used to help reinforce a concept. Also, when I did not understand a concept the outline was great because it generally used easier terms and examples to explain the bare bones of a subject. Once I understood the outline's explanation, it was much easier to understand my text book.

The worst commercial outline for beginners

This commercial outline is terrible as an introduction to federal income tax. It takes FOREVER to find basic definitions, such as the distinction between ordinary income and capital assets. Without an understanding of these definitions, you won't understand anything in the book, yet the author fails to make the definitions clear.

For example, I first went to the capsule summary to find the definition of "capital asset" and then found that I had to turn to another section of the book. When I turned to that page, I found that I had to turn a couple more pages to find only PART of the definition of "capital asset" and then I had to turn to yet another section of the book, no pages provided by the author this time, to get the rest of the definition.

To make a long story short, the organization of this book makes no sense at all. If you already understand federal income tax, this commercial outline might be useful as a review. Otherwise, if you're taking tax only because you feel obligated by the requirements of your bar exam, then perhaps another commerical outline is better.
