The book is the book I asked for, but it is in TERRIBLE condition. The book had been owned by at least 3 people previously. The person who owned it last has read every page of the book and highlighted every sentence. They also wrote in the margins to the extent that they had to WHITE-OUT previous owner's work with white-out just so they could write on top of it!! It also arrived fully tabbed, with a tab for every chapter and subchapter heading. There is not a blank spot in the entire book. Even if I wanted to, there is no room for me to interact with the text. Definitely not what I was looking for.

A Compelling Interest

Mr. Chemerinsky is surely one of the leaders in the education of constitutional law, and his casebook is well tailored for the beginning law school student. Instead of trying to impress other lawyers, or simply reprinting case text as-is with no synthesis (a criminally unpunished activity by many casebook creators), Chemerinsky states early on that this book is structured for the student. There is certainly plenty of supplemental information here, with Chemerinsky doing a fine job of synthesizing and categorizing the myriad dimensions of constitutional law, and usefully facilitating the student's learning experience through more than just reprinted cases. The only real problem with this book is its sheer size, which cannot be blamed only on the nature of the subject matter. In my three-credit, one-semester course we only got through about a quarter of the book. When creating a casebook that truly presents constitutional law for the student, which is Chemerinsky's goal, the editor should figure out a way to emphasize the bare fundamentals that should be mastered by the average student who has a limited amount of time available for doing so. Easy to understand

I ordered 5 law books to get prepared for law school and this one was the best. It scared me at first because it is so big but it is easy to read and understand. It contains all the interesting cases that was decided by the Supreme Court. I was able to read through the entire book in a month because I couldn't put it down. I start law school in August and I am looking forward to it.

Bad Editing

This book seems to lack any sort of editing. Several of the problems state the wrong facts. For example, "...BallCo sent SportCo a copy of its 2011 catalog, but BallCo never examined it." The answer proceeds to explain that SportCo never read the price catalog. That is not what the problem said.

update: This is ridiculous. I've gotten further in the book and there are 3 errors within 2 pages! In the same sentence they refer to a company as BestCo and Bestco. I'm shocked that this was published.

HORRIBLE

This book was obviously not edited at all. The questions are confusing and don't make sense. When I first began reading it, something felt off. I tried to corroborate the Restatement (Second) in the book with my copy of the Restatement (Second), and it was not right at all. The book quotes the wrong Restatements throughout the entire text. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED IN YOUR CONTRACTS COURSE.

Absolutely awful book

This book is poorly written and unedited. It is riddled with grammatical errors; the captions for the illustrations and samples are misleading; often the text that can't be distinguished from illustrations because of inconsistent use of fonts and dividing rules.
When one of the authors tried to discuss the difference between the executive, judiciary and legislative branches of the federal government, she forgot to describe the executive or perhaps didn't know what the president's function is.
One of the authors thinks that Black's is a common law dictionary. Perhaps she meant commonly used? No attorney would tolerate a paralegal or legal assistant with such poor communication skills as these authors possess; yet the book is supposed to teach the prospective paralegal to communicate in a legal environment.

The workbook is sloppily laid out without any thought to the amount of space needed to answer the question adequately. It's misleading when the question only requires a short answer and too much space is provided; the reverse is also true.

Legal Research and Writing Handbook: A Basic Approach

Although the Legal Research and Writing Handbook is geared for paralegals, it is a valuable guide for attorneys as well. The authors guide readers through each step necessary to use a research tool. In addition, readers learn how to integrate various research methods to perform comprehensive searches of legal materials. The writing portion of the book also provides a step by step approach to drafting documents. It is an excellent resource for all legal researchers and writers.
