Chances are you don't have a choice when choosing this book (as I didn't) since textbooks are mandated by your professors or schools. Like you, this was the assigned book for my Employment Discrimination Law class. Here is why this book sucks:
They try to do us a solid by providing examples in the book as you go along (+1 star for that) but there are two major problems with the example scenarios:
1. The answers are in the end of the chapter instead of just at the end of scenario. This makes you constantly flip to the end of the chapter to read another paragraph that mostly just repeats what was just said and then it gives you a short answer.
2. The author only uses 3 names in ALL of the scenarios: Ida, Alfonso, & Ezra. They are used interchangeably between the roles of employer, union, and third party to the point that half-way through the book you'll be totally confused by the scenarios because the Union boss's name "IDA" in the last scenario is now the Employer's name in the next scenario... utterly frustrating and makes you have to re-read the scenarios; all because of lack of creativity by the author. Maybe the author wanted to use their children's names in their hard-written book (which is fine) but if that is the case they should have branched out to cousins and associates as well.
Other than those issues (which are major ones for me) this book is well written and thorough.
