Remedy The Wrong

When I was a kid, I thought of this subject as "ambulance chasing."

And as I've had life experiences that have opened my eyes to more options, Tort Law has become, "Clarity and Power."

In many ways, this is an excellent book. Each chapter is short and to the point, with detailed descriptions of terms, and charts that compare and clarify what you need to know.

As I read many of the chapters, often I'd say, "No wonder that company reacted when I called just to fix a problem," for me, it was about a miss-understanding, and my speaking up.

For that company, or those companies that I've called on, it, as this textbook explains, it was about preventing higher business cost; and, in some cases truly caring.

As this book explains, Tort law covers more than wrongs by a business. It is also personal interactions; employer/employee issues; and federal wrongs.

Tort Law is about: peace of mind; deterring future wrongs; resolving issues and accountability.

Two things that I would have liked to have seen in this book are:

1. Footnotes on the page, as opposed to at the end of the
chapter; and,
2. Clean up the typos.

Overall, "Essentials of Torts" is an excellent introductory resource.

The summaries are concise and useful and can be used both for prep before class and to refresh your memory if you're cold called. I also found it useful for my exam prep because I didn't have to reread every case to incorporate them into my outline in an effective manner.

This is a good supplement, but the book has been updated since this was released, so the supplement and the book are not keyed perfectly and there are some key missing cases. If you have the older version of the book, this would be a great asset.

You will read the cases and go to class, but you can't touch this subject until you've answered fifty questions WRONG. It can either be in this book or on the exam. You decide.

First---as I've reviewed for the other E&E's, the database is melding the reviews together.

I'm speaking of the newest edition which is quite good. I laughed reading the reviews below where people compare these to emanuel's and gilbert's when really they are a different breed.

If you do your job and outline and supplement with E&E you really can't go wrong. They provide explanations and practice, not a "hold your hand and walk you through everything and do your outlining for you" method that apparently a lot of students want--hence the sales of emanuels and gilbert's.

In sum, if you are looking for a comprehensive outline on law get a commercial outline. If you are looking for explanations and real practice, take a look at these. As the reviewer below stated, this newer edition is definately worth a shot.

This Book Helped Me Ace Property

I used this book throughout the semester and read it alongside my case book. Usually other students struggled with the basics in class, but I already had the vocabulary and the black letter law down after reading this book. I don't understand the prior reviewer's comments bashing this book--perhaps they are referring to an earlier edition? I thought this book was easy to understand and a great supplement for a difficult course. Of course, Property is so difficult that I recommend using this study aid throughout the semester, rather than trying to cram it all in at the end--perhaps that is the issue prior reviewers had.

Ever-present tool for me as a law student...

I carried stacks of these flash cards held together with rubber bands with me everywhere when I was in law school. Going to the doctor ... great! I could go through a 50 or so while waiting in waiting room, and another 20 or so while waiting in the exam room!. Off to dinner with my study partners after class? Great, we could quiz each other while dining at Taco Bell. I found them very helpful, and contributed not a little bit to my graduating with honors. Even after graduating, while studying for the bar exam, I pulled out some of my first year flash cards to carry around, to brush up on what I had learned a couple of years earlier. Just so handy. And they don't drain the battery on a smart phone...

Wrong contents.

The box was missing Torts and had Con Law in it's place. Whoever packed it clearly was not paying attention.

Box did not contain one subject.

I just received the box, and although it suggests that it includes "Civil Procedure I & I, Criminal, Contracts, Real Property and Torts, my box did not arrive with the flash cards for Torts, but included 'Constitutional Law I' instead. While the Con Law I cards would be helpful when I take the course, it does not help right now, when I am actually taking Torts. I suppose it would have been better to buy these individually, instead of ordering a box with contents that do not match the packaging.
